Director Shankar Named CNN Indian of the Year


Shankar, the director of the mighty ‘Endhiran/Robot’, the biggest successful film ever in the history of Indian Cinema, has been named the CNN-IBN Indian of the Year 2010. He will be honoured with the award in the capital city New Delhi on December 22nd 2010.

Star actors like Aamir Khan, Rajinikanth and Salman Khan, director Vikramaditya Motwane etc were also in the race for the award.

The selection process went in four phases. First, the Editorial Board of The IBN18 listed the nominees. Then, a panel of adjudicators comprised of many prominent Indian personalities, ratified the list followed by voting by the Electoral College along with Citizens of India.

About Shankar

Shankar was born on August 17, 1963 in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu. He made his directorial debut with the film ‘Gentlemen’ in 1993 and till date he has directed 10 movies all of which were dubbed into Telugu.

His last film ‘Endhiran’ (Robot in Telugu and Hindi) made of highest budget ever in the Indian Cinema (about 162 crores) became the highest grosser in the Indian Cinema. The film, released on October 1, is still packing up huge crowds in theatres and is showing no signs of fading away in the near time.

Shankar is gearing up for his next film which will be the remake of Bollywood blockbuster ‘3 Idiots.
